Metro Detroit dodged the major snowstorm that hit the Upper Peninsula earlier this week, but is now in the path of a winter storm that is expected to dump a lot of snow on the region starting Saturday.

Accumulating snow is expected to arrive late in the afternoon Saturday, Nov. 29 and continue through the morning of Sunday, Nov. 30, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency is predicting the region could see 4 to 7 inches of snow through Sunday.

However, there could be even more accumulation. The NWS expected snowfall forecasts for Michigan for Friday, Nov. 28 through 7 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1 shows some parts of the state, including Gaylord and Sault Ste. Marie, could see up to 20 inches of snow. In metro Detroit, Detroit and Pontiac are predicted to get as much as 9 inches of snow.
