Blustery day with rain and a chance of hail and thunderstorms – Met Éireann

A meteorologist, Holly O’Neill, has said it will be a “blustery day in store with widespread showers across the country”.

Some of those showers might turn heavy, and the day will bring a possibility of hail and isolated thunderstorms, she added.

Showers will continue through the afternoon, and will turn into longer spells in parts of Connacht and Ulster, which will remain cloudy.

Meanwhile, elsewhere will have a chance for brighter weather.

Today will stay cool, with the highest temperatures ranging between 7 and 10C, with some fresh to gusty winds, and gales on the coast.

Tonight will be similar, bringing showers to most areas, some of which will turn heavy at times, with the chance of isolated hail and thunder still in place.

More persistent rain will later spread overnight over parts of the north and west for a time, as temperatures are set to drop to 0 and 4C, with a chance of frost.

The weekend will start off cloudy tomorrow morning, bringing showers from the north, which will become heavy at times, with possible hail and isolated thunderstorms again.

It will turn brighter later on Saturday evening, and it might become drier, too. However, showers will start to move in from the west by nightfall.

It will be another cold day, with the highest temperatures at just 5 and 9C, with occasional fresh winds in the southwest.

Met Éireann has said the weather will be “generally changeable and unsettled” over the coming days.

Ms O’Neill added: “Looking out to the next few days, it’s going to stay rather unsettled with Atlantic low-pressure systems dominating our weather pattern.”
