Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen receives more bad news after 1-0 defeat

For Sheffield Wednesday, it never rains, it pours, as the Owls once again grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory, this time against Millwall.

It was Henrik Pedersen’s team who did all of the pressing in the first half, with Barry Bannan going close twice, including a long-range effort just before half-time that almost beat the goalkeeper.

The second half saw the Lions give Wednesday a barrage of pressure, however, with Femi Azeez’s introduction from the bench, turning the game in favour of the hosts.

It was he who snatched the winner against Wednesday, and in truth, their constant pressure during the second 45 minutes probably warranted them scoring a goal.

Sheffield Wednesday receive more bad news regarding Dominic Iorfa

Aside from Liam Palmer and Jamal Lowe, the Wednesday bench was largely made up of kids against Millwall, and on Saturday, things could be even more depleted.

On Wednesday night, defender Dominic Iorfa collected his fifth yellow card of the campaign for a challenge in the first half, and he won’t be available against Preston.

That means an experienced player of the squad won’t be able to play, and it leaves the Owls with all sorts of problems when it comes to their defence.

Iorfa has been part of the Wednesday squad for a number of years now, helping the team win promotion to the Championship and remain there.

Pedersen might have to sign another defender

Wednesday have been given special dispensation to land more players, with Liam Cooper signing for the Owls recently following a short period on trial with the club.

Iorfa not playing will be a blow for the Owls, and although it’s one game, there is an argument that the player Wednesday sign after getting permission from the EFL needs to be a defender.

The Owls are conceding goals at free will at the moment, and shutting up shop is perhaps the way to go at the moment when it comes to stopping the rot.

It will be Palmer who likely steps into the breach in Iorfa’s absence, but if Wednesday can land another enforcer before the weekend, that would be a welcome bonus.
