Thomason hails Wrexham’s consistency heading into Blackburn clash

Phil Parkinson’s side go into tomorrow’s clash against Blackburn Rovers at The Racecourse on the back of Wednesday’s 2-0 home win over Bristol City.
Victory – a fourth in a row at their North Wales stadium – extended the unbeaten run to seven games and leaves the Reds 10th in the table, just two points away from the play-off places.
The division is tight so midfielder Thomason knows consistency is key.
“Everyone knows this division is so topsy-turvy and top to bottom, it’s really tight, so you’ve got to keep consistent and humble,” he said.
“Keep your feet on the ground and not look too far ahead.
“But at the moment, we’re on a good run of form and we want to continue that.
“We don’t take anyone lightly. We know Blackburn’s going to be a tough test and we’re looking really forward to it.”
Wrexham have kept four successive clean sheets and Thomason stressed the importance of shut-outs and making The Racecourse a fortress.
“It’s important to build some form of consistency at home, especially as going away from home in this division is really hard,” he said.
“Picking up points away from home is crucial and massive, but equally making our home ground a fortress is absolutely huge.
“To win four on the bounce and keep on picking up these clean sheets is really important.
“You’ve got to give yourself a good base and foundations to build on, and at the moment we’re doing that.
“Everyone’s buying into the defensive work so if we can keep their score at zero, we’re always going to be in the game and we’ve got enough attacking talent and energy at the top end of the pitch to go and create moments.
“We’re absolutely doing that at the moment.”
Wrexham took the lead against City in the first half with a stunning strike from Nathan Broadhead.
Victory was completed 16 minutes from time when Thomason’s in-swinging corner hit the post and rebounded in off goalkeeper Radek Vitek.
It looks like he was denied a first goal since joining from Bolton Wanderers in the summer but winning was all that matters.
“Regardless if the goal was mine or not, I’m not really too fussed to be honest,” added Thomason.
“I know it took a nick off him but hopefully it crossed the line before that.
“The main thing was getting that second goal in the second-half and coming out with a win, so over the moon.”
