BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans have dubbed Saturday night’s show (November 22) as having “the best opening ever” . The show’s iconic Blackpool special saw a live performance from nineties favourite Steps, where the five members sang a medley of their best hits.
Fan favourites included Better the Devil You Know, Tragedy, Chain Reaction, and more with viewers describing the performance as having “banger after banger”. Strictly professionals danced seamlessly behind the band, with pregnant Diane Buswell and her bump taking centre stage.
Fans were quick to jump onto social media to express their love for their “all time favourite” Strictly opener. One X user Katie said: “Steps Blackpool opening routine might be one of my all time favourites, that was everything to me #strictly.”
Another user Jess agreed, writing: “Best strictly opening ever.”
Alan said: “I’m not a big fan of this show but that opener was superb #strictly.”
Another fan Lucy said: “Right! This Steps performance is banger after banger! Fully prepared for this to be the best part about Blackpool music….. #Strictly.”

Many viewers felt nostalgic during the performance, with some transported back to “1995”. One fan said: “That Steps medley was needed more than I ever could have imagined. Nostalgia maxed out. #Strictly.”
Sara commented: “Steps is on #StrictlyComeDancing is it 2025 or 1995!! #strictly.”
The performance also marked the Strictly return of former contestant Faye Tozer. The singer and her partner Giovanni Pernice competed together on the sixteenth series of the show in 2018, finishing as runners up.
Dancing the stage at Blackpool this week was remaining contestants including George Clarke, Amber Davies, Alex Kingston, Lewis Cope, Balvinder Sopal and Karen Carney.

Sadly, it was announced that contestant La Voix would have to pull out from the rest of the series, after it was previously announced she had sustained an injury.
The North Eastern Drag Race star looked devastated from the crowd, as hosts Tess and Claudia explained they would be speaking to her properly on Sunday night’s show. For many contestants, Blackpool week is even more important than the final, with the duos desperate to dance on the springy floors of Blackpool’s iconic Tower Ballroom.
