First look at Nicola Coughlan’s magical next role in film adaptation

We may be biased, but if Nicola Coughlan’s attached to a project we know it’s going to be good!

The actress, whose popularity saw a major surge after her lead role in Bridgerton season three, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree.

Nicola will star opposite Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy in the film, slated for a March 2026 release, which is helmed by BAFTA-award winner Simon Farnaby, aka the brains behind Paddington 2 and Wonka.

The beloved children’s novel follows the Thompson family – Polly, Tim and their kids Beth, Joe and Fran.

The family of five moves to the English countryside; Initially unhappy about upping sticks, the siblings discover an enchanted tree which plays host to an array of magical creatures from fairies to pixies.

Naturally, their triumphant discovery leads to incredible adventures as they find their supernatural companions are keen to take them on journeys to faraway lands.

Claire Foy and Andrew Garfield portray the Thompson parents, while Nicola plays Silky, a beloved pixie – and we now have our first proper look at her in character.

Sharing a photo of herself in costume, Nicola introduced Silky to her followers. She wrote: ‘This is Silky- so called because of her silky, golden hair (naturally).

‘This movie is really, really, really special, and I can’t wait for you all to see it. #TheMagicFarawayTree trailer coming very soon…’

An earlier magical image, shared with The Hollywood Reporter, shows Nicola’s Silky peeking through the lush branches of the Magic Faraway Tree.

Ted Lasso’s Nonso Anozie plays self-appointed leader of the group, Moonface, while Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning stars as Dame Washalot and Slow Horses star Dustin Demri-Burns plays Saucepan Man.

Elsewhere, Mark Heap plays Mr Oom Boom, Oliver Chris stars as Mr Watzisname and Dune’s Rebecca Ferguson stars as Dame Slap.

The film’s exact release date has yet to be confirmed, but now that we’ve had a sneak peek at what’s to come, an announcement could be on the cards soon.
