Surrey police say a man is dead after a late-night shooting.
It is the city’s sixth homicide this year, according to a Surrey Police Service (SPS) news release.
Police responded to calls of a shooting near the 10400 block of 152 Street around 11:40 p.m. PT Friday night, SPS said.
Frontline officers found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries, and despite life-saving measures, the man died at the scene.
SPS said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation.
The release said the incident does not appear to be random or related to extortion, but added the motive is still under investigation.
“The investigation is in the early stages and IHIT is working in partnership with Surrey Police Service and RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit officers to complete priority tasks,” said the release.
Police are asking anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact IHIT.
