Fargo offers free holiday light recycling, cardboard disposal

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The City of Fargo is providing residents with free options for environmentally friendly disposal of holiday lights and excess cardboard generated from holiday shopping.

Residents can recycle old or unwanted string lights, including LED and older styles, at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.

The facility, located at 606 43 ½ St. N., will accept lights Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., now through Jan. 31, 2026. Rope-style lights will not be accepted for recycling.

Additionally, Fargo residents can utilize the free Residential Transfer Station for extra holiday shopping-generated cardboard and other household waste.

The transfer station is situated at the Fargo Landfill, 4501 7th Ave. N. Accepted items include cardboard, non-freon appliances and old furniture.

Proof of residency is required to use the service. Commercial waste and building materials are not accepted.
