Title leader Broc Feeney survives engine scare for dramatic grand final win

Championship contenders were under threat left, right and centre as Broc Feeney took line honours in Race 33 of the Adelaide Grand Final on Saturday afternoon.
Despite being troubled by engine behaviour, title leader Feeney powered through to victory, easing some of the pressure on his Supercars campaign.
Rounding out the podium was title rival Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood, ahead of fellow contenders Will Brown and Kai Allen.

Feeney sliced past Wood after the second stops with a bold maneuver to retake the lead. While Wood, unwilling to negatively impact the championship battle, played the team game, surrendering second place to Mostert at the final corner.
With win No.14 for the season, Feeney now leads Mostert by 23 points. The gap to reigning champion Brown is 76 points, and Allen trails by 88 points.
On lap six, Feeney radioed in a worrying update with the Red Bull driver reporting an engine misfire and nervously stating that the engine was “cutting out”.
The drama continued when Mostert made contact with Thomas Randall as he attempted to move down the left-hand side of the pit straight.
While the contact caused no damage to Mostert’s Ford, the incident forced him off the road and nearly into the fence.
Having run wide at the Senna Chicane in the lead-up, officials issued Mostert a bad sportsmanship flag.
As the race progressed, Feeney reported that his intermittent engine issue was “coming good”.
However, Mostert’s woes were compounded when he clipped wildcard Austin Cindric.
Mostert also cut a curb before subsequently making contact with a tyre bundle, resulting in damage to his front left bumper and mudguard.
In an aggressive race start, rookie Aaron Cameron surged through the centre chicane to pass polesitter Feeney and lead the field at the end of the opening lap.
However, Cameron’s time at the front came to an abrupt end when he crashed out at Turn 3 while running in second, stopping in the Turn 4 run-off.

He was the only retiree in the race.
Rounding out the top 10 were Matt Payne, Randle, Cam Waters, James Courtney and Brodie Kostecki.
With Feeney’s win, Chevrolet also secured the 2025 Champion Manufacturer title, adding another trophy to the day’s achievements.
Earlier, Feeney claimed his second pole of the weekend by over half a second as Mostert, who shockingly missed the cut, qualified 12th.
Fellow title contender Brown clocked the fifth fastest time, while Allen was down the grid in eighth after being hampered by an engine problem during the Top Ten Shootout.
The action resumes on Sunday with qualifying at 10:30am (AEDT), followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 1:05pm, ahead of the 78-lap Race 34, which starts at 3:45pm.
Like Friday, rain is expected to wreak havoc.
Should Mostert win the season finale, Feeney needs a minimum finish of third place to secure the championship title.
