Geraldton bushfire threat downgraded

Firefighters have got on top of a blaze north of Geraldton, with the threat downgraded on Friday afternoon.
A bushfire watch and act alert had been put in place for an area bounded by North West Coastal Highway, Chapman Valley Road, Sutcliffe Road South, Moresby Road and Broome Street in the suburbs of Spalding, Waggrakine and Moresby.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the bushfire was reported just before 2pm on Friday.
At 4.30pm, DFES said the bushfire threat had been downgraded to an advice level after the blaze had been contained and controlled. There is no longer any threat to lives or homes.

Aerial support had been sent to assist ground crews, with firefighters patrolling the area and mopping up.

- The threat of the fire has reduced however you should take care in the area.
- Stay alert for potential dangers such as smoke and fallen trees and power poles.
- If you do not have a plan, make one now on Emergency WA, or in the Emergency WA app to stay safe in future emergencies.
- Be aware of emergency services and other support personnel working in the area.
