Hibs v Celtic – Team news, match officials, KO time & where to watch

Celtic take on Hibs at Easter Road this afternoon in the lunchtime kick-off in the Scottish Premiership in what will be the final match in charge for the interim management team of Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney…

The pair arrived at the end of October after Brendan Rodgers was removed from the club, with his olive branch approach to the Celtic Board being rejected and accordingly his offer to resign – if that positive conciliation approach was rejected – was accepted by the Celtic Board, with principal Celtic PLC shareholder Dermot Desmond using the club’s official website to savage a manager who had delved double digit trophy wins for the club over his two spells at the club.
Rodgers’s final two games – away defeats to Dundee and Hearts – had left the Tynecastle side with a significant lead in the Scottish Premiership standings and O’Neill and Maloney had a matter of hours to prepare the team fore their first match – a must win league encounter with Falkirk.
That game was won 4-0 and the pair’s two other league games were also won as Hearts faltered. A Premier Sports Cup semi-final win over theRangers delivered Celtic’s first win over the latest Ibrox club in 2025 and three points from two tough away matches in the Europa League has set Celtic on course to progress to the next stages.

Today it all ends at Easter Road ahead of Wilfried Nancy’s arrival. Usually an incoming manager has pieces to pick up but not the Frenchman. He will arrive with an immediate chance to avenge those two defeats by beating Dundee and Hearts at Easter Road, and if Martin O’Neill delivers another three points today against Hibs, Nancy can take Celtic back to the top of the league looking down on the Jambos this weekend.

Win, lose or draw today Martin O’Neill has enhanced his reputation even further and Shaun Maloney has certainly merited a place in Nancy’s coaching staff if he is going to be offered it.

Colby Donovan had a nasty knock on the foot in Rotterdam, but Martin O’Neill reckons that he’ll make it for today’s match at Easter Road. Marcello Saracchi is likely to be back today, with a place on the Celtic bench alongside Kelechi Iheanacho. However Martin is likely to name the same starting team that defeated Feyenoord on Thursday evening, while utilising his bench as much as possible with fresh legs.
James Forrest, Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota are all on the Celtic injury list and will not feature. We’re unsure about Jamesy’s return date but the rest will be unavailable for the longer term.
Predicted Celtic Team
Schmeichel; Donovan, Trusty, Scales, Tierney; McGregor (c), Engels, Hatate; McCowan, Maeda and Yang.
Subs: Sinisalo; Ralston, Saracchi, Murray, Bernardo, Nygren, Balikwisha, Iheanacho, Tounekti, Kenny.
