CM: Milan considering January move for Mateta as fears of an ‘auction’ arise

AC Milan could make a move soon for Jean-Philippe Mateta, especially given that they could have movements in the window.

There is no hiding from the fact that Milan need another striker, and there are few better options than Mateta. All things considered, the Frenchman has experience in a few top European divisions, as well as being a proven goalscorer.

Past this, his scoring has now taken him to the French National Team, where he hopes to be part of the World Cup squad next summer.

Mateta and the auction

It makes complete sense for the Rossoneri to be tracking him, and they have been interested since before the summer. The Frenchman was considered out of reach, but recent developments could lure the Diavolo back in.

He has a desire to play in Italy, perhaps for Milan, and contract talks with Crystal Palace have slowed. So, a move could be on the cards, especially with Santiago Gimenez likely to be sold in the January mercato.

As Calciomercato.com write, it would cost at least €30 million to bring him to San Siro, but that price could rise with interest in the attacker high. In a World Cup year, if he performs well, his value will increase.

It may be better to bite the bullet sooner rather than later, especially if others enter the race properly.
