Toropchenko ejected for knee-on-knee hit that injures Mammoth’s Cooley

The Utah Mammoth will have to hope for some good news after one of their top young forwards was forced to leave Saturday’s game with an injury.
Logan Cooley was helped off the ice following a dangerous collision.
Cooley suffered a lower-body injury in a knee-on-knee incident with Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko.
The play resulted in immediate discipline from the officials, who assessed Toropchenko a five-minute major and game misconduct penalty for kneeing.
The sequence occurred during play when Toropchenko appeared to lead with his leg while attempting to check Cooley. The impact sent the Utah centre crashing to the ice in visible distress.
Trainers attended to Cooley for several moments before he was assisted to the dressing room. He was unable to put any weight on his left leg as he left the ice.
There was no immediate update on the severity of the injury or a timeline for his return.
Cooley is a central piece of Utah’s offensive attack with 14 goals and 23 points in 25 games this season.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety automatically reviews all five-minute major penalties, and Toropchenko could face supplemental discipline depending on the league’s assessment of the hit.
