ST. LOUIS — Logan Cooley, the Utah Mammoth’s leading scorer this season, left Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues after a collision with Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko.

The play happened in the third period of the Blues’ 1-0 victory over the Mammoth, with Cooley entering the offensive zone. There was knee-to-knee contact between the two players and Cooley dropped to the ice.

The Utah center was down briefly before being helped to the bench by teammates Brandon Tanev and Clayton Keller. He was putting no weight on his left leg.

There was no penalty called on the play, but referees Kendrick Nicholson and Chris Lee convened and decided to give Toropchenko a five-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct. The Blues killed off the penalty.

“I don’t like to talk about what (calls) the referees make. That’s the call they made, and we’ve just got to deal with it,” said Blues coach Jim Montgomery. “I loved the way we killed the penalty off.”

Cooley, 21, signed an eight-year, $80 million contract in October. He did not return to the game. Mammoth coach André Tourigny had no update on Cooley’s condition after the loss.
