Joe Sugg opens up on ‘Strictly curse’ rumours with co-star who wasn’t Dianne Buswell

The YouTube star and Strictly Come Dancing contestant has opened up about being incorrectly linked to Steps singer Faye Tozer during his time on the BBC show in 2018, before his real romance with professional dancer Dianne Buswell began

Joe Sugg has spoken candidly about the infamous “Strictly curse” and how he was mistakenly connected to a fellow contestant during his stint on the BBC dance show.
The YouTube sensation and TV personality, who took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, notably began a relationship with his professional partner Dianne Buswell while appearing on the programme.
The couple have remained together since the series concluded and have continued to stay in the spotlight. In September, Buswell, 36, and Sugg, 34, posted a video on Instagram revealing they were expecting their first baby together.
However, during an honest conversation on The Fellas podcast, Joe disclosed that speculation about a Strictly romance emerged before his relationship with Dianne developed.

Discussing his fellow contestant Faye Tozer, Joe said: “Yeah, so she was in my series, and when I was a kid, she was my favourite in the band. And yeah, so she was my favourite in the band,” reports Wales Online.
Joe clarified that the rumour stemmed from an old video he discovered, featuring him and his sister performing one of the choreographed routines from pop band Steps. “I remember I said, I used to fancy Faye,” he acknowledged. “They brought that up and tried to make it out like there was already a Strictly curse going on between me and Faye.”
Nevertheless, Joe emphasised that there was no romantic connection between him and the pop star. He later confirmed his romance with his Strictly professional partner following the 2018 finale.

In September, the couple shared another Instagram video showing them painting on a canvas. After several brush strokes, they revealed their artwork, which showed two stick figures holding hands with a smaller stick figure alongside the date “2026”. The post, set to Sir Elton John’s Tiny Dancer, was captioned: “Our little baby boy. We cannot wait to meet you.”
Strictly judges Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse, along with professional dancer Johannes Radebe, were among those sending their congratulations in the comments section.
Dancer Amy Dowden wrote: “Still screaming, dancing and celebrating! So so happy for you both! Magical. Auntie Ames can’t wait.”
Documentary-maker Stacey Dooley, who won series 16 of Strictly with dancer Kevin Clifton, simply commented: “YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES” with a crying emoji.

Like Buswell and Sugg, Dooley and Clifton also began a relationship and now share a daughter called Minnie.
Buswell departed this year’s Strictly Come Dancing after her dance partner, Neighbours star Stefan Dennis, withdrew from the competition following a calf injury.
The Australian professional won the glitterball trophy last year with her celebrity partner, comedian Chris McCausland, who became the first blind contestant to compete on – and win – the series.
