Cardinals TE Trey McBride is on pace to surpass two Chiefs icons

The Kansas City Chiefs played their Week 13 game on Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys. As the rest of the league competes on Sunday, there are long-time records from their legendary tight ends in jeopardy.

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride had nine receptions last week and leads all tight ends with 80 receptions and 797 receiving yards this season. He has five or more receptions in 13 consecutive games, and with five receptions on Sunday at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he can surpass Pro Football Hall of Fame member and Chiefs icon Tony Gonzalez.

Gonzalez had 13 consecutive games from 2008-09 for the second-longest such streak by a tight end in NFL history. Only current Chiefs star Travis Kelce’s 15 straight games in 2018 has a longer streak all-time among the position group.

McBride can also become the sixth tight end in NFL history with at least 80 receptions and 800 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons, joining Kelce who’s streak is active with nine from 2016-24, Todd Christensen with four from 1983-86, Jimmy Graham with four from 2011-14, Jason Witten with four from 2007-10 and Gonzalez with three seasons from 2007-09 and 2011-13.
