Jaguars’ pre-halftime fight is most Jaguars way to end a first half

Even in a first half where the Jacksonville Jaguars got two first-half touchdown passes out of quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the way in which their Week 13 duel against the Tennessee Titans wound down before their first-half intermission was classic AFC South unnecessary wackiness.

After getting the ball to Tennessee’s side of the field up 15-3, Liam Coen instead chose not to use record-setting kicker Cam Little for a long field goal and tried to have Lawrence heave it to the end zone. Instead, Lawrence was knocked out of bounds by a very hard hit by Titans pass rusher Arden Key.

What ensued was some very likely R-rated conversations between Key and the Jacksonville sideline that led to a possible punch thrown, a brief melee, and 15-yard penalty on the Titans. Little came back out for a shorter attempt, which he punched through to give the Jaguars an 18-3 lead.

After all of that, Tennessee was penalized and Little ended up kicking the field goal anyway. One wonders as to why Coen decided to do this in the first place instead of opening up his quarterback to another hit and refusing to kick what is a makeable attempt for Little.

Jaguars-Titans first half ends with fight, big hit on Trevor Lawrence

Even though Travis Etienne and the running game haven’t been able to get going as well as they have been over the last few months, the return of Brian Thomas Jr. and Brenton Strange alongside new addition Jakobi Meyers has helped the Jacksonville passing game out.

Even though Cam Ward has made some throws, the Jacksonville defense has generally been able to keep him in check. One wonders as to why Coen would end up going for an unnecessary killshot that ended up only working out because Key lost control of his emotions.

As has seemingly always been the case with the Jaguars, especially in divisional rivalry games, this team is more than comfortable throwing normality out the window in the name of giving fans a healthy dosage of abject chaos in basically every way. Jags fans likely aren’t surprised by moments like that.
