Strictly Come Dancing viewers found themselves split over tonight’s BBC programme dance-off results, with some fans left absolutely “fuming” by the outcome.
Tensions reached fever pitch on Strictly this evening, as the quarter-final approaches with merely six couples left battling it out in the competition.
The programme also unveiled the thrilling Instant Dance Challenge as a fresh twist, piling additional pressure on the celebrities as they readied themselves for their performances.
Karen Carney and Carlos Gu secured their inaugural perfect score of 40 this series after delivering a deeply moving routine to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.
In contrast, Balvinder Sopal and her professional partner Julian Caillon managed only 28 points for their performance, whilst Alex Kingston and Johannes Radebe found themselves at the bottom with a disappointing 23 points.
Ultimately, these two lowest-scoring couples faced each other in the dreaded dance-off, with the judging panel opting to rescue Balvinder.

The decision was not unanimous, as Anton opted to save Alex, saying: “For me, the couple I’d like to save just for it being a slightly better quality dance, will be Alex and Johannes.”
After she was voted out, Alex said: “I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would last this long and it’s been just the most incredible – as Anton always says, it’s the journey – and it has been the most incredible journey for me.
“And I sort of feel quite proud of myself because I’ve learned to dance and I’ve really loved the process and 100% I couldn’t have done it with this man,” she said, adding that Johannes would be “a friend for life”.
Alex was a fan-favourite on the BBC show, and many fans were very sad to see her go, taking to social media to share their thoughts.
One wrote: “Gutted for Alex and JoJo, they were my winners.”
A second added with a crying emoji: “I’ve never been so upset god this is just horrible.”
A third complained: “You were robbed, Alex. Light years better in literally every way and class through and through.”
Yet another commented with a crying emoji: “I really thought at one point thar Alex would make the final or even win so it feels like such a shame her journey has come to an end.”
However, others were relieved to see Balvinder was safe and felt it was time for Alex to bid farewell, with one person tweeting: “I feel like Alex was ready to go. You can definitely tell she was in pain though, that’s a shame.”
Another agreed: “The best result tonight, but I feel Alex knew it and was ready to step away. An absolute queen though.”
One more wrote: “Yesss well done Balvinder and Julian…”

The upcoming week brings the Strictly quarter-final, with the BBC promising: “Get ready for a jam-packed night in the ballroom, as it’s the quarter-final and the last themed week of the series: musicals!
“Our couples take centre stage and transport us to the glittering West End for some showstopping routines.
“Tom Fletcher provides music and marmalade sandwiches, as he performs a song from the brand new musical adaptation of Paddington, with the iconic bear joining us in the ballroom.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues next Saturday at 6.50pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
