Hillier Funeral Service Unveils Transformed Lime Kiln House as New Funeral Home in Royal Wootton Bassett

Lime Kiln House in Royal Wootton Bassett has officially been transformed into a newly renovated funeral home by Hillier Funeral Service. The firm acquired the historic building, previously home to a radio station, in October 2024 and dedicated several months to restoring it in preparation for a grand opening event held on Thursday, November 27.
Rebecca Hillier, the company’s director, expressed her excitement about the transformation, stating, “It’s amazing to see how we have transformed this building into what it is today.” She emphasized the importance of this project, which marks a new era not only for the building but also for Hillier Funeral Service as a whole. “Seeing everyone here tonight shows the impact we have and what community means to us,” she added, highlighting the business’s commitment to serving families in their time of need.
Around 150 guests attended the grand opening, including local ministers, celebrants, representatives from nursing homes, industry professionals, doctors, councillors, and the Mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett, Steve Bucknell. The evening began with guests enjoying champagne and canapés, followed by speeches from Ms. Hillier, Reverend Canon Jane Curtis, the Mayor, and the Town Crier.
This renovation marks the second significant project managed by Rebecca and Mark Hillier. Rebecca shared her pride in continuing her family’s legacy, asserting, “To demonstrate that independent funeral homes can continue to grow and remain pillars of their community is something we’re incredibly proud of.”

He further noted that the new funeral home aims to be a space of comfort and reflection, embodying their commitment to meet the needs of local families.
Hillier Funeral Service, which has been serving families in Swindon and the surrounding areas for over a century, has also planned an open week at the new Royal Wootton Bassett site. This event, scheduled from Friday, November 28 to Friday, December 5—excluding Sunday, November 30—invites members of the community to visit, meet the staff, and tour the refurbished premises.
