Defenceman Foote signs AHL deal with Chicago Wolves

Defenceman Callan Foote has signed a contract with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, the team announced Monday.

The Wolves are the affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes. According to the team, Foote’s deal is a standard AHL player contract.

Foote has not played in the NHL since the 2023-24 season while he was a member of the New Jersey Devils.

In 2024, Foote was charged with sexual assault, along with four other members of Canada’s 2018 World Junior hockey team, in connection with an alleged incident that occurred in June of 2018 in London, Ont.

Foote and the others – Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Alex Formenton and Dillon Dube – were acquitted of the charges in late July.

The 26-year-old Foote has played four seasons in the NHL split between the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators and Devils. He was selected by Tampa in the first round (14th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.
