LIVE UPDATES: Drivers asked to stay home as road conditions worsen

Winter weather conditions are causing traffic issues and school closings in mid-Missouri.
Monday is a First Alert Weather Day due to the travel impacts.
Snow expected to be most robust from around noon to 10 p.m. According to the First Alert Weather team, snow will reduce visibility and create slick spots during the evening commute.
12: 25 p.m.: Crash at Missouri River Ridge in Jefferson City blocks traffic
A crash on westbound U.S. 63/U.S. 54 is delaying traffic at the Missouri River Bridge, according to the Jefferson City Police Department.

11:59 a.m.: COU flights to Chicago and Dallas canceled
Two flights from the Columbia Regional Airport were canceled Monday amid winter weather.
According to COU’s online flight status tracker, American Airlines flight 4228 to Chicago was scheduled to leave at 12:28 p.m. and was canceled.
American Airlines flight 3853 to Dallas/Ft. Worth was scheduled to leave at 5:58 p.m. and was also canceled.
11:54 a.m.: Boone County dispatchers ask drivers to stay home
Boone County Joint Communications sent an alert at 11:54 a.m. asking people to stay home amid deteriorating road conditions.
“Roads in Boone County are deteriorating rapidly,” the message said. “Emergency personnel along with road crews are working as quickly as possible. Please stay home if you can.”
11:46 a.m.: City of Sedalia declares snow emergency
The City of Sedalia declared a snow emergency on Monday amid winter weather. Snow routes are now in effect.
According to a news release, city leaders declare a snow emergency when more than two inches of snow, sleet or ice is expected within a 24-hour period.

The city of Sedalia said its snow routes help improve traffic flow by allowing crews move quicker when clearing snow and ice.
Drivers are encouraged to give space to heavy equipment and salt spreaders as they work.
11:40 a.m.: Winter weather impacts road conditions in Columbia
11:27 a.m.: Crash partially blocks I-70-U.S. 63 connector
The Columbia Police Department is investigating a crash blocking the exit ramp from eastbound I-70 to U.S. 63 in Columbia, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F. The crash reopened by noon.

More than a dozen organizations, including schools, have announced closures Monday.

11:15 a.m.: Snow plows clear Columbia roads
The Columbia Public Works Department’s Street division crews are responding to winter weather across the city.
According to a news release from the city, the city’s first priority will be to clear major residential and arterial streets used for public safety needs.
Next will be heavily traveled collector and residential streets, city and school bus routes, streets leading to schools, hospitals and other key locations.
