Stranger Things fans slam ‘terrible day’ after devastating Season 5 update

*Warning: Contains spoilers for Episodes 1 to 4 of Stranger Things Season 5*

After an agonising wait, Stranger Things enthusiasts have finally been treated to the first glimpse of the fifth and final series of the sci-fi sensation, with the initial episodes landing on Netflix just last week.

Audiences were left stunned by a massive twist at the conclusion of Episode 4, which unveiled the true scope of Will Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) abilities. Following his own encounter with Vecna (Jamie Campbell-Bower) in his younger years, Will discovered he could actually harness the child-abducting villain’s magic and wield it himself.

In the closing moments of Episode 4, Will takes command of the Demogorgons who are about to assault his friends and hoists them into the air, shattering their limbs one by one. After rescuing his loved ones, his nose begins to bleed, mirroring Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) reaction when she utilises her powers.

The suspenseful ending could result in the world of the Upside Down being quite literally flipped on its head, but viewers will have to hold their breath until December 26 to see what happens next as that is when the subsequent three episodes arrive. Meanwhile, the grand finale will be released separately on January 1, reports the Mirror.

As fans pencil the dates into their calendars, there has been a significant Stranger Things update which has left devoted show followers devastated.

The official Stranger Things social media accounts announced today (December 1) that there would be exclusive fan screenings of the final episodes in cinemas before their official release on Netflix. However, it was made clear that this event would only be available to fans in the US and Canada.

“What a terrible day to be in England,” one disgruntled fan wrote. Another responded: “Ugh, it’s cool they’re doing an epic screening but… US and Canada only? Seriously?”

They added: “The final season’s Episode 4 got a 9.7/10 IMDb rating globally. This show is bigger than one continent, that’s just a fact. Couldn’t they do a simultaneous, free global stream for fans outside North America?”

Another viewer quipped: “Make it worldwide you cowards, do you not think Europe wants this too?”, while another demanded: “Someone book me a flight right now.”

A UK-based fan pointed out: “Stranger Things is number 1 in the UK as I type why would you not put in in cinemas here?”

The first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 are now streaming on Netflix. Episodes 5 to 7 release on December 26, followed by the grand finale on January 1.
