Michelle Monaghan Refuses to Take Off Heels for Male Costars Anymore

In a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, actress Michelle Monaghan reflected on her evolving perspective regarding her height and footwear on set. The 49-year-old star, known for her roles in various films, shared that early in her career, she often took off her heels to avoid towering over her male co-stars. This practice, she noted, was a pressure many actresses faced to conform to conventional standards in Hollywood. Monaghan described a particular scene from the 2010 film Somewhere, where she had to remove her heels so that her height wouldn’t overshadow her male counterpart.

Revisiting that time, she recalled, “The only detail that I do recall from that scene is the apple box he’s standing on because he’s shorter than I am. It’s that classic Hollywood moment of, ‘This is an issue. You’re going to have to take off your heels.’” However, she emphasized that those days are behind her, stating firmly, “I’m not going to take my shoes off for anybody — unless it’s for sound.”

Currently, Monaghan stars alongside Mark Wahlberg in the recently released The Family Plan 2, which debuted on Apple TV on November 21. In this sequel, she reprises her role as Jessica, alongside Wahlberg as Dan. The film follows their family as they navigate a chaotic holiday vacation disrupted by an enigmatic figure from Dan’s past, played by Kit Harington. The plot promises a thrilling mix of bank heists, holiday antics, and family bonding against picturesque European backdrops, including scenes shot in London and Paris.

Speaking about her working relationship with Wahlberg, Monaghan praised their chemistry, stating, “We really have a nice time working with each other. We really enjoy each other’s company.” She also expressed her investment in the film’s narrative and the shared connection with the younger cast members, including Zoe Colletti and the Lindsey siblings.

Monaghan revealed that the opportunity to film in international locations was a significant factor in her decision to participate in the sequel. “Just to see that they were going international this time around, of course, appealed to me personally, as well as professionally,” she shared, adding that the experience of filming in iconic cities during the holiday season was especially rewarding. “It was made for a very, very special second chance,” she concluded, reflecting on the joy and significance of the project.
