Chelsea have found another gem that no one is talking about amid Estevao Willian’s exploits

While Estevao Willian remained at Chelsea over the summer, the Club World Cup winners loaned out several other talented youngsters.

The above includes Kendry Paez, Mike Penders and Mamadou Sarr, who all joined Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg.

Chelsea have a lot of confidence in Penders, so he could become the team’s No.1 in the near future.

However, the goalkeeper, Estevao and the other aforementioned names are not the only gems that the Blues have stumbled across over these past few years.

Aaron Anselmino proving to be another Chelsea gem

In 2024, Chelsea signed Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors, and the defender is starting to look like a really clever bit of business.

Anselmino cost the Conference League holders just £15m and is starting to excel at Borussia Dortmund, whom he joined on a season-long loan in the summer.

On Saturday, the German club beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1, with the 20-year-old playing a huge role in that victory. He managed to get his name on the scoresheet and win three aerial duels.

Dortmund manager Niko Kovac was really impressed with Anselmino, hailing him as a “true professional” after the game.

It comes after the Argentine put in another solid performance in Dortmund’s 4-0 Champions League win over Villarreal.

As Estevao continues to shine at Chelsea, Anselmino and some of the club’s other young signings are going under the radar.

Aaron Anselmino could save Chelsea millions next year

With how Anselmino’s development is going, Chelsea may not have to sign a new central defender in 2026.

Chelsea are once again being linked with Murillo of Nottingham Forest, so that is one centre-back they could try to bring in. But with Anselmino proving himself at a big club like Dortmund and in the Champions League, he may be ready to play for Chelsea in the 2026/27 season.

A lot will depend on whether the Blues feel that their squad actually needs another centre-half added to it. Enzo Maresca already has Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo and Josh Acheampong, while Levi Colwill will be back from his ACL injury by then.

But if one or two leave or more injury problems occur, perhaps Anselmino could be the solution, a solution that will not cost Chelsea a single penny.
