Icy roads cause multiple crashes and delays across the Tulsa Metro

TULSA, Okla. –

Multiple crashes caused slowdowns across the Tulsa Metro Monday morning.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that they responded to hundreds of incidents across the state overnight and at least two fatality crashes.

The following numbers were recorded between midnight and 9 a.m. Monday morning.

  • Fatality crashes: 2
  • Injury crashes: 101
  • Non-Injury crashes: 225
  • Motorist Assists: 21

EMSA reports that its paramedics and EMTs have responded to 35 traffic accidents in the Tulsa area and transported 11 patients to local hospitals. Officials added that it is about eight times more than a normal morning.

The City of Tulsa stated that crews began preparing for this winter weather last week, ensuring that brine applicator systems were ready. He said the city has added some calcium chloride to make the brine more effective this year. Crews started treating the roads at midnight, with a focus on elevated areas to start.

Even with the treatment on the road, drivers are urged to slow down and use caution on icy roads. Unnecessary travel should be avoided until conditions improve.
