1 dead, 1 arrested following Springfield shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – One person is dead and another has been arrested after a weekend shooting in Springfield.

Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that officers were called to the 0-100 block of Home Street around 10:40 p.m. Sunday for a reported shooting victim. When they arrived, they found an adult male victim inside an apartment, who was then taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Through an investigation, detectives identified 21-year-old Daevon Shular of Seguin, TX as an alleged suspect. He was arrested around 10:15 a.m. Monday at Baystate Medical Center after he was taken by private vehicle to the hospital Sunday night for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Shular is facing several charges including murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and attempting to commit a crime (armed robbery).

The case remains under investigation by Springfield Police, in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s murder unit.
