Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo posted a photo of her and her fiance David James on Facebook. Houston Mayor John Whitmire commented that he “sure looks like a nerd.”
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, in a social media post on Monday, announced she had separated from her husband, David James, calling the decision unexpected but the best choice.
The split comes more than a year after she first announced her engagement and marriage to James, an attorney with Austin-based law firm, Edwards Law.
The topic of their engagement was later featured in a Vogue Magazine wedding article.

“Our time together has also seen challenges, of course, but we’ve worked hard and availed ourselves of resources to weather those and strengthen our relationship,” Hidalgo wrote in an Instagram post Monday. “This year, life took a turn that made us see things differently. So, very much unexpectedly, this day of our anniversary, David and I are separated.”
She said the decision was made confidently, but not lightly.
“It’s not what we confidently, though painfully, feel is best,” she wrote. “Just as we have for 10+ years, we deeply love, respect, and admire each other and remain in close touch.”
