The push toward a national championship for the Akron Zips men’s soccer team continues.
With a 2-0 win over Duke on Nov. 30, the Zips advanced to play Saint Louis at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Elite Eight.
After losing to Connecticut in the Big East Championship, the 13-4-3 Zips have wins over Notre Dame and Duke in the tournament. They’re a No. 14 seed in the tournament.
Saint Louis is 12-2-8 with tournament wins over Kentucky, Indiana and Bryant. The Bryant win on Nov. 30 went to three overtimes. Saint Louis wasn’t ranked in the tournament.
Akron and Saint Louis played against each other on Sept. 23 — a 3-0 Zips win at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The winner of this game faces the winner of No. 7 Georgetown against No. 15 North Carolina State on Dec. 12.
