Luton Town – The Ultimate They Played For Both – Exeter City

This Tuesday evening the Hatters welcome Exeter City, to Kenilworth Road, for a Vertu Trophy Cup tie.
Or the winner, an appearance, at Wembley Stadium, in the final draws that little bit closer.
Looking back into the Vital Luton Town file, we find that our opponents, on Tuesday, Exeter City, featured in our – Played for Both Series – back in March 2022, with the following starting XI (plus substitute) being, after due consideration, selected:
Goalkeeper – Henry Abbot
Defender – Jamie Campbell
Defender – Jim McNichol
Defender – George Pilkington
Defender – Richard Dryden
Midfielder – Lawson D’Ath
Midfielder – Fred Murray
Midfielder – Vince Hilaire
Forward – Sam Nombe
Forward – Sam Parkin
Forward – David Pleat
Substitute – Jayden Stockley
With three years having passed, I thought I’d take time out to see if any candidates for selection, had emerged or, possibly, been missed ahead of our game on Tuesday.
My investigations produced the following list:
- Millenic Alli
- Carlos Mendes Gomes
- Admiral Muskwe
- Chiedozie Ogbene
- Jake Richards
- Jack Stacey
- Rowan Vine
- Steve Williams
- Robbie Willmott
But do any of them deserve a place in the ULTIMATE XI?
After much consideration, I’ve re-jigged the starting XI (plus substitute) to now read:
Goalkeeper – Henry Abbot
Defender – Jamie Campbell
Defender – Jim McNichol
Defender – George Pilkington
Defender – Jack Stacey
Midfielder – Steve Williams
Midfielder – Fred Murray
Midfielder – Jake Richards
Forward – Vince Hilaire
Forward – Sam Parkin
Forward – David Pleat
Substitute – Millenic Alli
Is it an XI (plus substitute) you concur with or would you beg to differ?
Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility below this article.
Also, it is worth pointing out that two players who have played for Exeter City have also managed Luton Town, Ray Harford and Paul Buckle, one with much greater success than the other.
