A ‘heartwarming’ film which fans call their ‘all-time favourite Christmas movie’ has just been added to Netflix for its subscribers.
With December now underway, it appears that the streaming giant has their attention fully focused on giving their customers festive classics to watch for the millionth time. As the days get shorter and the nights get colder, there’s nothing better than watching a Christmas movie.
Netflix have already added the UK phenomenon Love Actually this week. The Richard Curtin movie includes the likes of Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and Keira Knightley in its cast.
Released in 2003 Love Actually delves into different aspects of love as shown through ten separate stories involving a variety of individuals, many of whom are interlinked as the plot progresses. The story begins six weeks before Christmas and is played out in a weekly countdown until the big day.
As anyone who has spent countless hours scrolling for something to watch, the more options available the better. Having also released several original Christmas films in recent weeks, Netflix added a bonafide classic on Tuesday (December 2).
Directed by Nancy Myers, The Holiday follows Iris and Amanda, two lovelorn women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, who arrange a home exchange to escape heartbreak during the Christmas and holiday season.

Starring Kate Winslet and Cameon Diaz, the fish out of the pond adventures for the women is turned on its head when they find love with Jack Black’s Miles and Jude Law’s Graham respectively.
Boasting Eli Wallach, Edward Burns, and Rufus Sewell in its supporting cast, The Holiday is full of laughs, emotional moments and enough festive joy to get you through to December 25 in one piece.
Upon its release in 2006, critics didn’t know what to make of The Holiday, with it holding an approval rating of 51% on Rotten Tomatoes. Its consensus states: “While it’s certainly sweet and even somewhat touching, The Holiday is so thoroughly predictable that audiences may end up opting for an early check-out time.”
The past decade has seen The Holiday go from a cult classic to an essential Christmas watch, with many people leaving their reviews on IMDB to explain why it’s one movie you don’t want to skip this year.
@DianaFiD said: “This is probably my all-time favourite Christmas movie. I actually watch it every year! What’s not to love? Wonderful actors, a heart-warming script, beautiful connections/chemistry throughout the movie and a depth in characters you rarely see anymore in the “Christmas-feelgood-romance” kind of movies. Oh and such a fun soundtrack, I really enjoy that too.”
@davispittman wrote: “The Holiday (2006) is an out of the ballpark smash hit! I thought about it after seeing it and just seriously could find NO fault whatsoever. This is such a feel good, cute, romantic, and sweet film. And it’s not one of those stupid run of the mill romance movies, it actually has depth and is well made.”
@threescompanydavis commented: “My family and I simply love this movie. It’s funny, heartwarming, a little sad, but realistic because we’ve been there done that. It’s very realistic to us, because life is a roller coaster, up and down and twists and turns. To see both women go through rough times and shine in the end. Beautiful script, great acting, great scenery.”
