Darius Slay hints at frustrations with Steelers amid benching

Darius Slay’s disappointing 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers hit a new low over the weekend, as the once starting cornerback found himself listed as a healthy scratch for the Week 13 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. And the veteran defender might’ve hinted at some frustration regarding his usage with the Steel City brand of football.
A day before finding himself on the Week 13 inactive list, Slay took to social media and replied to a post claiming that he’s never drunken alcohol, confirming the report before potentially throwing a little shade in the direction of the Steelers.
“Very true,” Slay wrote via an Instagram story. “[Not drinking alcohol] might change this offseason.”
An All-Pro caliber cornerback with the Detroit Lions and a Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles, Slay’s continued slide down the Steelers’ depth chart likely has him frustrated — and who could blame him? After all, most of the defensive struggles appear to be linked to the coaching staff and game-plan decisions more so than players being at fault.
While Slay’s usage in Pittsburgh is trending in the wrong direction, the veteran cornerback could see more action in Week 14 if James Pierre remains in concussion protocol ahead of the pivotal AFC North matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
