Iwobi Delighted: ‘We Wanted That Derby Win, And Our Fast Start Killed Tottenham!’

Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed his excitement after Fulham clinched their first away win of the Premier League season, defeating Tottenham in a high-tempo London derby that showcased the Cottagers’ growing confidence.

Speaking after the match, Iwobi said the victory was a product of Fulham’s aggressive mentality from the first whistle.
“Our quick start was everything. We wanted to stamp our authority early, and it worked,” he said.

The former Arsenal midfielder explained that London derbies always carry a special emotional intensity, and Fulham went into the match determined not just to compete, but to impose themselves.

“We always want to win a London derby. There’s pride involved, and today the team showed that hunger from the beginning,” he added.

Iwobi, who has become one of Fulham’s most influential transitional players, praised the team’s organisation and pressing structure, noting that the players executed the game plan with discipline and self-belief. Tottenham struggled to cope with Fulham’s early pressure, allowing the visitors to seize control of the match.

“Everyone stayed focused. We were compact, sharp, and ready to fight for every ball,” he said.

The win marks a significant turning point for Fulham, who have been searching for consistency away from home. Iwobi believes the result is a confidence booster that should propel the team upward.

“We want to climb further up the table. This win is a step in that direction, and we need to build on it,” he said.

The midfielder also highlighted the improving chemistry within the squad, crediting manager Marco Silva for demanding high standards in training and pushing the players to trust their abilities more.

Iwobi himself has enjoyed a strong spell of form this season, contributing in midfield with energy, ball progression, and leadership qualities that were on full display against Spurs.

His message to Fulham supporters was upbeat and determined:
“We’re growing, we’re improving, and we’re not done yet. This season can still be big for us.”
