Victor Wanyama Names the Countries He Will Be Supporting in AFCON 2025

Victor Wanyama has shared his thoughts on the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, expressing his excitement and readiness for the tournament.

The former Harambee Stars captain mentioned that he has several friends playing in the tournament, including players from Senegal, Nigeria, and the host nation, Morocco, and he plans to support them during the competition.

“The going is good. I’m feeling good and looking forward to the AFCON in Morocco. I’ll be there. I’m thinking…I have a few friends playing over there, Senegal, Nigeria, and Morocco, so I’ll be backing all those teams,” Victor Wanyama told the Confederation of African Football.

Victor Wanyama also spoke about some of the players he is particularly excited to follow at the continental event now that Harambee Stars will not be there.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder mentioned that there are several notable stars in the tournament, including Alex Iwobi, Sadio Mané, Riyad Mahrez, and Achraf Hakimi, who make the competition especially interesting.

He also reflected on the evolution of African football, noting that many previously lesser-known national teams, such as Comoros, have significantly improved, meaning there are no longer ‘small fish’ in the continent’s competitions.

Despite the depth of talent across the board, he highlighted Senegal, Nigeria, and Morocco as teams that generate the most excitement and energy during the tournament.

“There are a few of them there, Iwobi, Sadio, Mahrez, and Hakimi, so a lot of players to watch. The game has evolved, and we have a lot of unknown national teams that are doing well,” he shared.

“The likes of Comoros and Madagascar, a lot of teams have evolved, and there are no longer small fish in African football. I think Senegal, Nigeria, and Morocco bring the most vibes.”

With the 24 qualified nations confirmed and the draw having taken place, the groups are set, and the focus now shifts entirely to the action on the pitch in Morocco.
