Report: Teen injured, one detained after shooting on Burton High School campus

A student was shot in the leg Tuesday afternoon at Phillip and Sala Burton Academic High School’s campus, authorities said.

San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson Lt. Mariano Elias said an engine and ambulance responded to the campus in the Portola neighborhood, providing care before transporting a patient to a hospital.

San Francisco police did not immediately respond to reports of the incident, but police data listed a shooting incident response at 12:10 p.m. at Mansell and Somerset streets.

Supervisor Jackie Fielder said the student was struck in the leg and was in stable condition. She said she learned of the shooting at 400 Mansell St. at 12:40 p.m.

“I am in contact with SFPD and SFUSD as they secure the campus, conduct their investigation, and review footage of the incident,” Fielder said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful for the quick response and actions of SFPD, Burton staff, and teachers to secure the premises.

“Every child deserves to feel safe at school and in their communities,” she added. “We can never accept senseless violence that disrupts any student’s well-being and pursuit of their education.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
