Ice Chips: Stars D Bichsel out six weeks

Dallas Stars
Defenceman Liam Bichsel needs surgery and will miss roughly six weeks, head coach Glen Gulutzan announced.
The 21-year-old blueliner has one goal and three points in 26 games this season while averaging 15:48 of ice time. He had four goals and nine points in 38 games last season.
The #NYR won’t see Jake Oettinger tonight. Casey DeSmith is starting.
Lian Bischel is also not playing. He needs a surgery and will be out around six weeks, per Glen Gulutzan.

Los Angeles Kings
The Kings signed forward Samuel Helenius to a two-year, $1.75 million contract.
Helenius is without a point in three games with the Kings this season. The 2021 second-round pick has two goals and six points in 20 AHL games.
Detroit Red Wings
Head coach Todd McLellan said this morning that forward Mason Appleton is expected to be out at least a week with a lower-body injury.
Appleton had just 8:07 of ice time in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins.
The 29-year-old is in his first season with Detroit after signing a two-year, $2.9 million contract with the team on July 2.
He has three goals and nine points in 26 games this season.

Toronto Maple Leafs
Defenceman Simon Benoit is back in the lineup tonight against the Florida Panthers after missing Saturday’s game for personal reasons.
Benoit, 27, has two assists in 23 games this season while averaging 18:02 of ice time.

Defenceman Dakota Mermis will come out of the lineup with Benoit’s return.
Florida Panthers
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky gets the start in net tonight while forward Jack Studnicka draws into the lineup.
Bobrosvky has dropped his last two starts, allowing four goals on 18 shots against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.
Studnicka is in the lineup tonight for Florida.
No word yet on who’s coming out on the 4th line.

He is 10-7-0 in 17 appearances this season with an .882 save percentage and 2.88 GAA.
Studnicka was recalled from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers on Monday.
The 26-year-old has one goal and six points in eight AHL games this season.
The Panthers host the Maple Leafs tonight at home with both teams sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference wild card race.
New York Islanders
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is first off the ice at the morning skate and is expected to start against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In 17 appearances this season, he is 7-8-2 with a .901 save percentage and 2.67 GAA.
Head coach Patrick Roy said defenceman Tony DeAngelo likely won’t play due to illness but they’ll see.
DeAngelo, 30, has one goal and nine points in 26 games this season, his second with the Islanders.
