Avalanche’s Scott Wedgewood leaves vs. Canucks

Scott Wedgewood’s bid to make Canada’s Olympic roster may have hit a wrinkle.

The goaltender left Tuesday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks during a TV timeout in the second period.

Colorado later ruled out Wedgewood for the remainder of the game due to an upper-body injury, although it’s unclear when or how it occurred.

Mackenzie Blackwood took to the crease in relief.

The 33-year-old is putting up career-best numbers in his second year with the Avalanche, with a 2.08 goals-against average. His .921 save percentage across 18 games sits at the top of the NHL.

Wedgewood was acquired by the Avalanche ahead of last season’s trade deadline. The two sides re-upped on a one-year, $2.5 million contract that will kick in next season.

With the options between the pipes slim, Team Canada’s top brass has taken note of Wedgewood’s performance on the NHL’s top team, placing him firmly in the mix to nab a spot on the 2026 Olympic roster.
