Hinton died at the age of 85 after a rich career with Chelsea

Chelsea announced on social media: “It is with tremendous sadness that Chelsea Football Club announces the passing yesterday [Tuesday] of Marvin Hinton.

“Our thoughts are with Marvin’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Chelsea fans were left heartbroken by the news as they paid tribute to Hinton.

One supporter tweeted: “RIP legend.”

Another commented: “A true Chelsea legend. Sending strength to his family and everyone at the club. Rest in peace Marvin.”

A third wrote: “A heartbreaking loss. Rest in peace, Marvin — a true Blue whose legacy will always live on.”

This fan said: “RIP legend. Once a Blue always a Blue.”

And that one added: “One of the best in football history.”

Hinton’s career kicked off in 1957 when he joined Charlton Athletic‘s senior team.

The versatile defender then moved to Chelsea in 1963 where he amassed a total of four goals in 335 appearances across a 13-year stint with the club before his retirement in 1976.

Hinton was part of the West Londoners’ FA Cup-winning side in 1970 when they beat Leeds in the final replay.
