Team India pacer Prasidh Krishna delivered a key breakthrough by dismissing set batter Matthew Breetzke during a key juncture in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The in-form right-handed batter departed after scoring a fluent 68 runs off 64 deliveries to keep the visitors in the mammoth run chase.
Prasidh Krishna was not having the best of games after conceding 71 runs off his first seven overs. However, he was entrusted by skipper KL Rahul to bowl the key 44th over right after Kuldeep Yadav was taken apart for 13 overs by Tony de Zorzi and Matthew Breetzke.
The right-arm pacer kept things in check in the first half of the over as the Proteas scampered around collecting runs, but without any boundaries. He then rifled in a full delivery, which Breetzke tried to flick away to the leg side, but missed contact altogether.
After a vocal appeal by the bowler, the on-field umpire raised his finger. The batter reluctantly took a review as a last resort, but ball tracking showed three reds, ending his stay at the crease. Have a look at the dismissal right here:
Prasidh Krishna had earlier dismissed opposition skipper Temba Bavuma in the 21st over, but has struggled to contain the run flow amid a solid batting surface and heavy dew in the outfield. Apart from taking the wicket of Breetzke, the pacer also conceded eight runs in the crucial over.
South Africa’s innings wobbles after Matthew Breetzke’s dismissal in IND vs SA 2025 2nd ODI
While Breetzke’s fifty set things up for South Africa to complete the run chase with an achievable required run rate and plenty of wickets in hand. However, right after his dismissal, Tony de Zorzi sustained a hamstring injury while running between the wickets. The southpaw had to walk off, retired hurt, after receiving some treatment on the field.
Earlier, Marco Jansen had also holed out to the deep off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling, leaving South Africa in a vulnerable position. It is to be noted that Nandre Burger is also unlikely to bat due to an injury he suffered while bowling in the first innings.
