Nazareth football’s Falzone reportedly backs away from Auburn pledge ahead of signing day

Peyton Falzone’s recruiting journey has hit late turbulence.

The Nazareth Area High School senior quarterback has decommitted from Auburn University, according to a report from national recruiting writer Hayes Fawcett that Falzone shared.

The Southeastern Conference program fired head coach Hugh Freeze on Nov. 2. Sunday, Auburn revealed the hiring of South Florida head coach Alex Golesh to replace Freeze.

Nazareth announced last week that it would host a signing ceremony for Falzone on Wednesday, which is the first day of Division I football’s early signing period. That event was postponed on Tuesday, but has since been reconfirmed for 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Falzone, a four-star prospect according to major recruiting services, only played in three and a half games this season due to a broken clavicle. During that time, however, he threw for 1,176 yards and 11 touchdowns, while rushing for 195 yards and six scores.

Falzone threw for more than 5,800 yards with 53 touchdowns in his varsity career. He rushed for 1,347 yards and 26 TDs.

Auburn finished the season 5-7, including 1-7 in SEC play.

The 2025 campaign hasn’t been kind to Falzone’s major suitors. The Nazareth quarterback previously gave verbal commitments to Virginia Tech and Penn State. Both of those programs also fired their head coaches this season (Brent Pry and James Franklin, respectively). Franklin has since been hired to replace Pry at Virginia Tech.
