“We have to match that” – John Terry sends warning to Chelsea ahead of Leeds clash

Chelsea legend John Terry believes the Blues will be met with a “hostile” atmosphere at Elland Road against Leeds on Wednesday.

The Blues kick off a busy December with a tough game against the Premier League new boys, and they lost 3-0 on their last visit to Leeds under Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea went unbeaten in November, and conceded just one goal in the league, with Enzo Maresca’s men third, six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Having made just one change to the side for the Barcelona and Arsenal games, Maresca will likely make a number of changes to the team.

Cole Palmer should get his first minutes since September, having been on the bench against Arsenal, whilst Andrey Santos will almost certainly replace the suspended Moises Caicedo.

Paul Merson has backed Chelsea to win, and if the Blues can get three points then that would arguably show more signs of progress than the results against Barcelona and Arsenal.

However, there are no easy games and Chelsea will need to match the intensity they showed in those big games, and Terry believes a hostile atmosphere awaits Maresca’s men.

“Leeds away Wednesday night, always a tough fixture, but these are the ones we have to win if we want to be title contenders at the end of this season,” he said on TikTok.

“Always a hostile atmosphere at Leeds, a team that’s always on the front foot – regardless of manager and personnel.

“That’s what they bring, so we have to match that.”

Enzo Maresca faces difficult December

Leeds is the first of eight matches in three different competitions the Blues face in the busy festive period, which will test their squad to the limit.

Chelsea also face tough games against Aston Villa and Newcastle, whilst they have a Carabao Cup quarter final against Cardiff.

There’s a trip to Atalanta in the Champions League next week, where a win would further enhance Chelsea’s chances of a top eight finish, and the Blues will be hoping they come through December in a good position, having previously struggled over the festive period.
