Dodgers could devastate Blue Jays fans after free agent link that sort of makes sense

The Dodgers’ must-haves list for the offseason is short — an outfielder and bullpen arms, maybe a bench bat — but they’re nothing if not gluttonous.

They don’t strictly need another infielder, but they’re reportedly looking at the Cardinals’ Brendan Donovan, technically a utility man but primarily a second baseman, anyway. They don’t need two or three more All-Star-caliber closers, but they might get them anyway. They’ll be connected to basically anyone with a high price tag, either in trade or monetary value, simply because they can afford them.

So ESPN tabbing the Dodgers as a possible destination for Bo Bichette should come as a surprise to no one. David Schoenfield of ESPN named Bichette the “player most likely to help the Dodgers to a three-peat.”

Schoenfield lists the Dodgers’ needs for an upgrade at second base, a high-average hitter, and a relatively young one as reasons for LA to nab Bichette, who will make $130 million over five years in ESPN’s estimation (but $212 million over eight per The Athletic).

The way that Bichette’s market pans out would certainly affect any interest from the Dodgers, but if he does end up willing to accept a deal closer to ESPN’s prediction, signing him would be the perfect way to kick the Blue Jays while they’re down.

Tommy Edman can play anywhere, even if he might be a little more infield-focused after coming off ankle surgery that could hinder him in the outfield. Top infield prospect Alex Freeland also needs somewhere to go, but the Dodgers have already proven that they would rather sign or acquire proven talent than let homegrown talent grow in the majors. Freeland could make a nice trade chip.

Bichette proved in 2025 that his awful 2024 season was an anomaly. He hit .311 with a .840 OPS and led the Blue Jays in average and RBI. Although listening to announcers harp on it throughout the World Series was annoying, Bichette playing immediately after coming off an injury (and hitting .348 with a .922 through seven games) was an admirable display of grit.

And, if he can continue to hit like that in October, he’ll certainly have a lot of opportunities to do it in LA, where the offense withered and died at multiple points throughout the month.

Bichette coming to LA might be a little farfetched, sure, but you can never rule the Dodgers out.
