It’s December 3. Vanderbilt men’s basketball is 8-0 and ranked 17th in the country.
Somehow, this is not anywhere close to the biggest story with Vanderbilt athletics on December 3. For instance, the basketball team has to win two more games just to match the football team.
Anyway, my wife spent a year at SMU and sometimes I like to remind her that SMU was the Vanderbilt knock-off conceived when Vanderbilt broke with the Methodist Church. Also, SMU is also undefeated and this is the ACC/SEC Challenge — surprisingly competitive this season, with the ACC going 6-3 on the first night of the challenge. One of the SEC’s losses was Tennessee losing at Syracuse in spite of 22 and 9 from former Vanderbilt player Jaylen Carey, who also missed what would have been the game-winner in the final seconds.
All that just to lose to Syracuse.
