Adkins sings holiday blues with new track “One More Christmas”

Trace Adkins has released a poignant new holiday single, “One More Christmas,” showcasing his ability to blend traditional country music with heartfelt themes of loss and longing during the festive season. This original track, available through Caliburn Records, arrives just in time for the holidays and will be featured prominently on NBC’s holiday special Christmas in Nashville, airing on December 3rd at 10 PM ET/PT.
Co-written by Adkins alongside accomplished songwriters Derek George and Monty Criswell, “One More Christmas” represents a stark contrast to the lighthearted tone of his previous holiday hit, “Naughty List,” which debuted last November. This new ballad delves into the emotional depths of missing loved ones during this time of year, embodying the bittersweet essence of Christmas for many.
The song opens with a smooth saxophone melody that sets a reflective mood, as Adkins’ warm baritone voice envelops listeners in a comforting embrace amidst the holiday revelry. Supported by lush piano arrangements, tender guitar lines, and the gentle sound of sleigh bells, the track gradually transitions from festive cheer to a deep yearning conveyed in the chorus: “One more / Chance to say I love you too / Yeah, one more / Night to hold what I’m missing / To wrap you in these arms of mine.”
The second verse further encapsulates nostalgia, painting a vivid picture of shared memories during the holidays. Adkins recalls moments spent with a loved one, capturing an emotional resonance that many can relate to, as he evokes the imagery of dancing to Nat King Cole’s timeless tunes.

During the Christmas in Nashville special, Adkins is expected to perform both “Naughty List” and the classic “White Christmas.” Hosted by three-time Grammy winner Trisha Yearwood, the two-hour celebration of holiday music will also feature a diverse lineup of performers, including The War and Treaty and Ne-Yo, among others. The event will be filmed in front of a live audience at Category 10 in Nashville, and following its NBC broadcast, it will be available for streaming on Peacock.
Adkins’ release of “One More Christmas” caps off an eventful year for the country star, who recently finished the successful What Color’s Your Wild Tour and participated in Blake Shelton’s Friends & Heroes Tour earlier this year. As the holiday season approaches, “One More Christmas” offers solace for those coping with loss, reminding us all of the bittersweet nature of this time of year.
