‘The Old Guard’ & ‘Supergirl’ Star Matthias Schoenaerts Sentenced To Six Months In Prison — Reports

Rust and Bone and The Old Guard star Matthias Schoenaerts has been sentenced to six months in prison following driving offences, according to Belgian news agency Belga.
Schoenaerts, who will be seen next year as the villain in DC’s Supergirl movie, was sentenced in absentia after failing to appear in the Belgian court. The ruling related to two instances in 2024 of riding a motorbike without a valid licence, despite being banned from a previous 2021 driving offence.
According to Belga, the Belgian actor had been required to take remedial exams, but had failed to do so. He has also been fined €4,000 and has had a new one-year driving ban imposed.
Court spokesperson Luc De Cleir told Belga that the chances of Schoenaerts actually ending up in jail are almost nonexistent. The actor could also appeal the ruling.
Belgium’s national news agency reported that Schoenaerts has been convicted 11 times of driving offences. It may not be his last. The agency reports that the actor was stopped again by police in Pelt, Belgium, just last month. They report the actor didn’t have a licence, refused a breath test and “behaved aggressively” when his vehicle was towed. He was detained for several hours. These new facts are said to be under investigation.
Schoenaerts is one of Belgium’s most internationally recognised actors. His breakthrough came with 2011 Oscar nominee Bullhead and he has starred in movies including Rust And Bone, The Danish Girl, Red Sparrow, Far From The Madding Crowd, The Old Guard and TV series The Regime.
