Prince Harry makes Trump jokes on TV show

The pair first teased the Prince’s appearance on the show in a video featuring a viral Great British Bake Off audio clip on Wednesday.

Taking on the voice of Alison Hammond, the Great British Bake Off co-host, while sitting in the guest chair, Harry asks Colbert: “If you were treated like a king for a day, what would you want me to do for you?”

Colbert then responds as Mark Lutton, the Northern Irish baker: “Bake for me probably?”

The pair then share a back and forth in which Hammond thought Lutton said “beg” instead of “bake”, until he had to spell the word out for her.

The announcement of Wednesday night’s appearance was also shared by the Duchess of Sussex, who previewed the clip on her Instagram story.

Colbert’s other guests were Michael Shannon, an Academy Award nominee, and Jessie Buckley, the Irish actress and singer.

Wednesday’s visit was the Duke’s second Late Show appearance, having last taken part in the show in January 2023 to promote his memoir Spare.

His first appearance on the show set a two-year viewership record and made international headlines.

Fact-checking The Crown

The Duke and Duchess have been raising their children in Montecito, California, since announcing they were stepping back as working members of the Royal family in January 2020.

The couple have since been at the centre of tensions with other royals, with the Duke becoming estranged from the King, his father, and the Prince of Wales, his brother.

During his 2023 interview, Harry said he watched and fact-checked the Netflix series The Crown.

At the end of Harry’s interview two years ago, Colbert asked if he had watched the series.

The Prince answered: “There’s people laughing at that – yes, I have actually watched The Crown.”

Colbert asked the Duke: “Do you fact-check it while you watch it?”

Harry then pretended to take out a notepad and mimed taking notes before laughing: “Yes, I do actually.”
