Adam Sandler Praises 19-Year-Old Daughter Sadie’s Acting in Jay Kelly

Adam Sandler’s so proud of daughters Sunny and Sadie, the latter of whom costars in his film Jay Kelly.

“I just like being around them, whether it’s on set or at home when we’re clicking. It’s the best,” Sandler, 59, gushed to E! News on Monday, December 1, of working on projects with his kids. “It’s just been fun the last few weeks we’ve been running around together. They’re doing some stuff, and Sadie’s in Jay Kelly. She plays my daughter. They’re both really good kids.”

“They love acting,” he continued. “They’re kind of into it, like wanting to do it with their lives, so just pulling for them and want them to have a good and happy life.”

Adam shares Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 17, with wife Jackie Sandler, who also frequently appears in his films. (Adam and Jackie, 51, have been married since 2003.)

When asked if his daughters listen to his advice about the entertainment industry, the Uncut Gems actor said, “They listen to me and then they got their own path they want to do.”

He went on to explain that he gained notoriety early on in his career for his stand-up act, but Sadie and Sunny aren’t interested in taking the stage in the same way.

“They don’t want to get [into] that,” Adam said. “They want to just act. They’re really funny and nice kids, and whatever the hell they want to do, I want them to be happy.”

Adam exuded happiness while once again speaking about Sadie’s role in Jay Kelly during a November 12 Good Morning America appearance.

“She’s so good in it and I love her,” he shared. “Proud of her, she worked hard and never stopped preparing.”

Jay Kelly tells the tale of a fictional famous movie actor of the same name (George Clooney), who goes on a journey of self-reflection by looking back on his life with his manager, Ron (Sandler). The film has received rave reviews from critics, with many predicting Adam will score his first-ever Oscar nomination.

“Well, that’s real cool and real nice of everybody to say, and I’m just happy I got to be in it,” Sandler told People on September 29 of the Oscar buzz surrounding his role. “My man Noah Baumbach wrote it, kind of put it all together, got the performances he wanted out of everybody and I’m proud to be in it.”

The entire Sandler family recently appeared in Happy Gilmore 2, the sequel to Adam’s 1996 sports comedy, as well as 2023’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Adam admitted he was “relieved” to be working with the girls and that they always do such a great job on camera while speaking with E! News on July 16.

“Once they do it well, nothing feels better as a parent,” he told the outlet. “It must be like when you’re the parents of a baseball player and you’re at the game and they get a hit. You just go, ‘Thank god.’ It’s just so much relief.”

Jay Kelly was released in theaters on November 14 and is coming to Netflix on December 5.
