Aussie star shocks NYC pub-goers

One minute you’re having a casual chardy at the local pub, the next minute Hugh Jackman walks in and grabs the microphone for a surprise performance.

At New York’s Old Mates Pub, anything can happen.

On Monday night, the Aussie star, 57, dropped in to the iconic waterhole with his Song Sung Blue co-star, Kate Hudson.

And sing songs they did do, with The Greatest Showman actor wasting no time to treat the crowd with an impromptu gig, rocking out to classic songs such as Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

Other tracks from his latest movie also made a cameo, including Forever in Blue Jeans and Crunchy Granola Suite, while he could be heard hyping up the crowd to make some noise and “raise the roof.”

A surprised fan took to TikTok to share the fun footage of the actor singing from the tabletops, which he used as a mock stage at one point.

“Just another Monday living in NYC – only at @oldmates,” she captioned the visuals.

Old Mates is an Aussie-inspired pub located in downtown Manhattan, New York City.

Co-owned by comedic duo Andy Lee and Hamish Blake, it has fast become a hotspot for Aussies and celebrities wanting to wind down – Aussie style.

Aussie surfing pro Mick Fanning famously donated a Bells Beach Rip Curl trophy to the bar complete with a bell.

It is a long tradition that the bell be rung by a guest and this time, Hugh did the honours with a worker declaring: “When we ring the bell, we shout the whole f**kin bar!”

Everyone, including Hugh who flung his hands in the air in celebration, was cheering.

Given the local pull, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise to fellow pub-goers to see someone like Hugh drop in.

“So Aussie, love it,” one person commented.

“This is crazy omg,” another wrote.

Others dropped words like “iconic” and “so epic” in the TikTok comments.
