Roberta Darlene Hess, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025. She was born on July 31, 1948, in Mansfield to the late Chester and Audrey (Davis) Turner. Roberta grew up in Lucas, Ohio, as part of a large, close-knit family, and was a proud graduate of Lucas High School.
Around 1965, Roberta met the love of her life, John Louis Hess. The two married and went on to share 36 wonderful years together. Roberta devoted many years to her work, first as a spotter at Marco Photo and later as a manager at The Landings, where she was known for her dedication and warmth.
Roberta was a woman of many talents and joys. She loved crafting, cooking, testing her creations with her fingers—and tending to her whimsical outdoor fairy gardens. Her creativity, humor, and caring spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Janese R. Jones; son, John L. (Christina) Hess, Jr.; sister, Peggy A. Nusbaum; brother, Ronald G. Turner; grandchildren, Rick (Crystal) Hess, Makayla Hess, Patrick Soda, Kyle Jones, Luke Hess, and Dominique; and great-grandchildren, Jayden, Bryston, Aaliyah, Tristyn, Alexiyah, Kylan, and Amelia.
In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Louis Hess; twin brother, Robert Turner; brothers Donald Turner and Floyd Van Meter; sisters Doris Kibler, Brenda L. Jolly, Linda Cummings, and Barbara G. Turner; and grandson, Blake Hess.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The service will follow at 1:00 pm.
