Each day’s game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before today’s NYT Connections hints, here’s what you missed on Wednesday:
Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a great week so far.
Folks, I’m starting to get a little nervous. On Friday, the draw for the FIFA World Cup finals takes place. If you’re unaware (or perhaps you don’t know me too well because I can’t shut up about it), my home country of Scotland will be at the men’s World Cup for the first time since 1998.
We’re about to find out at least two of the teams that we’ll be playing in North America next summer. Teams are placed into groups of four, but there are still some qualification spots left to finalize. I’m hoping to face teams that are not too difficult maximize our chances of making it beyond the group stage for the first time ever.
I’d love to be able to go to at least one of our games if it’s at all possible. If it happens that Scotland end up playing Canada (a country of which I am now a citizen), I would try my very best to be there for that game.
We’ll have a clearer idea of our opposition at lunchtime tomorrow. At least for the first few games. Because we all know Scotland are going to win the whole thing.
Before we start, I want to mention the great community we have on Discord, where we chat about Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. It’s a lovely, welcoming group of folks. I like to call it our cozy little corner of the internet. You’re more than welcome to join us. Don’t be shy! In addition, you can read my weekend editions of this column at my newsletter, Pastimes.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, December 4 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling!
How To Play NYT Connections
Connections is a free daily word game that you can play on the New York Times website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game.
Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don’t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that’s what you have to figure out.
There’s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it’s game over.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved.

NYT Connections Answers
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your last chance to look away.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are…
- 🟨 Yellow group — cuddle (DRAW CLOSE, HOLD TIGHT, NUZZLE, SPOON)
- 🟩 Green group — imbibe (GUZZLE, KNOCK BACK, POUND DOWN, SWILL)
- 🟦 Blue group — things you assemble (IKEA FURNITURE, LEGO SET, MODEL, PUZZLE)
- 🟪 Purple group — snouts (BEAK, MUZZLE, PROBOSCIS, ROSTRUM)
IKEA FURNITURE had to be either part of a group of flat-pack things or stuff you put together. It was easy enough to spot the blues to get my first group of the day.
NUZZLE and HOLD TIGHT were my way into the yellows. Cute group. From there, the greens were easy enough, and that left the purples. PROBOSCIS made that connection pretty easy to deduce, I thought.
Back-to-back (and pretty straightforward) perfect games bring my overall streak up to 278 wins.
How did you get on today? Here’s my grid:

P.S. I’ve been on a real R.E.M. kick lately. What an incredible band. One of my all-time faves. It’s not my absolute favorite song of theirs and it’s the easy pick, but goodness, “Losing My Religion” is fantastic.
As with “Man on the Moon,” Michael Stipe nailed the recording of this song in a single take. I kind of want to buy a mandolin just to play this:
Because I’m me, I also went down a little rabbit hole of metal covers of the song.
I’d had no idea until now that Trivium and Lacuna Coil had both done their own spin on it. I enjoyed both of these:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
