Red Sox Predicted To Sign Franchise-Altering Five-Time All-Star

The Boston Red Sox have been active early in this offseason. Boston traded for Sonny Gray, but could now be in the market for an impact bat.

After trading for Gray, Breslow noted that the Red Sox could shift their focus to adding a position player. However, it remains to be seen which impact bat or bats the Red Sox target. Alex Bregman seems like an obvious target, but who else?

The Red Sox could be looking to add a power hitter this offseason. Along with Bregman, MLB insider Jon Heyman revealed on Thursday that the Red Sox are targeting Kyle Schwarber, Pete Alonso, Kazuma Okamoto and J.T. Realmuto. They clearly want to add a power bat and NorthJersey.com’s Pete Caldera predicted they would land Alonso.

Alonso is one of the best power hitters in the game. He is the New York Mets’ all-time home run leader and has the third most home runs in baseball since his debut. He is open to spending more time as a designated hitter, according to his agent, and could slot in at first base while Triston Casas recovers.

The Red Sox are not a bad home-run-hitting team. They ranked 15th this year, but fell off near the end of the season. After Aug. 1, the Red Sox hit the third-fewest home runs in the league.

Adding Alonso is a move that could change the franchise for years to come. He is looking for a long-term deal, just like Bregman. Having Alonso in the lineup with Roman Anthony, Alex Bregman and Boston’s other young players could make them a threat in the American League for years to come.

Alonso is a fan favorite in Queens, and Steve Cohen may be willing to outbid other teams to keep him. However, the Red Sox would be a great landing spot for the superstar first baseman.
